almost famous.......

The Movie istaged in the 1970s and is about William Miller, a 15 year old kid with a passion for rock & Roll music and journalism. William gets the chance to write an article for local music paper Creem magzine on Black sabbath. When he does not get in at the back door, he meets Penny Lane (played by Kate Hudson) and some other groupies that call themselves the "Band Aids".  The Band aids get in, but William iremains outside. Outside he meetstillwater, the opening band which arrives late and who take him inside. He befriends Russel Hammond, the guitarist of the band (whos character is based on Glenn Frey of the Eagles).

The articles written by William for Creem magazine get picked up by Rolling stone and they ask him to write a story for the magazine. William goes onyour with stillwater and Penny Lane & The band Aids. and here the story takes off, showing the rock & roll lifestyle (sex, drugs and music) and all the problems that come with this hectic lifestyle

The film isemi-autobiograpical as the director Cameron Crowe himself was a young Rolling stone reporter and toured with bandsuch a PocoThe Allman Brothers BandLed ZeppelinThe Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The character Penny Lane isaid to be based on both Bebe Buell, the mother of Liv Tyler, who dated rock stars like steven Tyler andTodd Rundgren and the "real" Pennie lane, a.k.a Pennie Trumbull, who toured with her group of music fans, named the flying garter girls with many bands in the 70s.

ELTON JOHNS.....Tiny Dancer
my favorite scene in the film

When you ever thought of writing for a (music magazine), touring with a band, dating with a band member or love going to concerts (which covers just about everyone, right?) I encourage you to go see this movie. I loved the autobiographical element  in it and how Cameron based a lot of characters on real rock stars and groupies. (Now I definately want to read I'm with the band by Pam Des Barres) But most of all, I love the fashion in this movie (hey, it's not called fashion film fridays for nothing!) The fashion in Almost Famous ia slice of pure Seventies fashion heaven, a mixture of hippie meets rocker chick!

Penny Lane and the band aids rock John Lennon sunglasses, Afghan/fur Jackets, lace crop tops, boho prints, headscarves, fringed tops, belly bottom jeans, shirts in sheer fabrics (in whites and nudes) with pussy bow details.  And oh joy! When looking at Winter 2010/2011 runway images, we can definitaly rock the Penny Lane look thiseason too:

Flares.......

Fur......

Penny Lane......

Pussy Bow.......

And remember boys & Girls. If you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends
